B3 Communications was hired to create a Real Estate Website for Seven Signatures International, a Real Estate company based in Hawaii and Japan. My role was to develop a Wordpress website that dynamically pulled data form the Hawaii Multiple Listings Service. The project also require three methods of searching available luxury listings on the island of O'ahu; Property Search, Condo Guide Search and Availability Grid Search.
This was the first website I have developed that has required Multiple Listings Service integration, which included pulling data from the MLS body in Hawaii. This required me to work with a Wordpress plugin provider (Usability Dynamics) to dynamically import data and images using cron jobs. After working closely with Usability Dynamics we were able to produce a customized product that met the requirements of the project.
After pulling the bulk data we needed to provide the user with multiple ways of finding listings in their area. The three methods of finding listings were by general property search, condo guide search and availability grid search. The property search allowed the user to search based on generic search requirements such as number of bedrooms, neighbourhood and price. The condo guide provided a method of finding all the listings in a given condo. The availability grid utilized dynamic SVG graphics to show which units were available and where they were located in the building.
There were many challenges throughout this project, with a lot of trial and error. My first attempt at finding a solution for MLS data pulls was not successful. This project has taught me the importance of having a contingency plan in place in the event that the first solution does not work. After working though the obstacles B3 Communications and myself were able to produce a solid product that provides Seven Signature's customers with a great resource for finding luxury real estate in Hawaii.
